Start in Assisi: Spiritual Journey on Foot or by Bicycle

The beginning of the journey takes place in the evocative Assisi, a city that is a symbol of peace and spirituality. The Basilica of St. Francis, with the Grottoes and the crypt containing the remains of the Saint, is an evocative starting point for a route that offers a unique atmosphere through the medieval streets of Assisi, surrounded by churches and historic buildings.

The route stretches through the picturesque Umbrian countryside, reaching Rieti, a town that boasts the Piazza San Rufo and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, authentic historical treasures. From here, pilgrims can choose to continue on foot, by bike or by other means, tailoring the experience to their preferences and abilities.

Continuing through Poggio Bustone, known for its Franciscan hermitage surrounded by nature, and La Foresta, a protected area that offers breathtaking views, the walk provides opportunities for reflection and contemplation. How to get there

From Rome

From the Grande Raccordo Anulare, take the A1 Firenze-Roma motorway (exit 10), exit at Fiano Romano (before the Roma-Nord tollbooth) and continue on the SS4 Salaria state road towards Rieti.

From the North

Take the A1 Firenze-Roma motorway, exit at the Orte junction, continue on the Orte-Terni ring road in the direction of Rieti, following the SS 675 or SS79.

From the South

Take the A1 Napoli-Roma motorway, exit at San Cesareo junction and follow the signs for Florence. Exit at the Fiano Romano junction and continue on the SS4 Salaria state road towards Rieti.

From the East

Take the A24 Roma-L’Aquila-Teramo motorway. Shortly after Tivoli, take the A1 motorway towards Florence; take the Fiano Romano junction. Continue along the SS4 Salaria state road towards Rieti.
