The Feast of Santa Cristina has long been one of the most heartfelt celebrations for all Bolsena citizens, an unmissable event, unique also for the many national and foreign tourists who meet in Bolsena in the summer to attend the events in honor of the patron saint. On July 23, the eve of the anniversary, Holy Mass is celebrated on the tomb of the martyr inside the underground basilica, richly decorated with flowers for the occasion. In the evening, however, in the main squares of the town, and then on the morning of July 24th, about 200 citizens, who belong to the Association of the Ancient Representation of the Mysteries of Santa Cristina, give life to the “Mysteries”, real figurative representations of the martyrs, inflicted in vain on the Saint in order to make her deny her Christian faith. The Collegiate Church of Santa Cristina is a destination throughout the year for thousands of pilgrims, but the influx increases considerably coinciding with the Feast of the Patron Saint of Bolsena |
